Paul Mdumi Awarded Celie J. Terry Prize

Paul Mdumi is the 2023 recipient of the Celie J. Terry Prize. The prize, established by Sanford Cloud Jr., former Chair of Hartford International’s Board of Trustees, is awarded each year to a student who demonstrates a commitment to academic achievement and excellence in interfaith community work.

The Rev. Dr. Paul Smith '60 Inspires 2023 Graduates

The Rev. Dr. Paul Smith '60, a civil rights activist and mentee of Howard Thurman, regaled graduates on Friday, May 12, with stories about his time at then-Hartford Seminary and how it set him on a path toward his work in building the "beloved community" of which Thurman spoke.

MAP Student Lyka Mtambo to Speak at International Conferences

MA in International Peacebuilding student Lyka Mtambo, who has a passion for women’s rights, interfaith work, and children's rights, will be presenting at these major conferences in the following months: “Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue: Working together for our Common Future” in Morocco; at the “Women Deliver 2023 (WD2023) Conference” in Rwanda; and the “Parliament of the World Religions” in Chicago on the theme “A call to Conscience: Defending Freedom and Human Rights.”

The Hartford International University community mourns the loss of Alice Frazer Evans, 83, who co-founded the Plowshares Institute based in Simsbury, CT, and taught courses in theology and ethics at HIU.

Communications Team Wins 6 Awards in 2 Contests 

April 20, 2023

The Communications team at HIU is pleased to receive four awards from the DeRose-Hinkhouse Memorial Awards. These annual awards go to members of the Religion Communicators Council who "demonstrate excellence in religious communications and public relations." They honor the late Victor DeRose and Paul M. Hinkhouse, both lithographers who were longtime members of the RCC.

Annie Smith '21 Starts Her Days With Empathy

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Annie Smith '21 always starts her day with empathy. “A person can sense if you are not being authentic,” Annie said. “And if you are not being authentic, this can create a huge obstacle in terms of meeting that person where they are at in their journey.”
