HIU Well-Represented at Parliament of the World's Religions
August 18, 2023
Hartford International University had a significant presence at the 2023 Parliament of the World's Religions, a gathering of about 7,000 participants representing more than 200 spiritual traditions from around the world.
The 2023 event, only the 10th since 1893, took place in Chicago, where the first parliament was held.
The gathering's mission is to cultivate "harmony among the world’s spiritual traditions and foster their engagement with guiding institutions in order to achieve a more peaceful, just, and sustainable world."
HIU had two staff members at a booth in the Exhibit Hall for the five-day event from Aug. 14 through Aug. 18. Director of Engagement Katy O'Leary and Director of Communications Susan Schoenberger spoke to parliament participants about our programs and gathered contact information.
Faculty members Lucinda Mosher and Allison Norton gave presentations during the week. Dr. Mosher alone gave six presentations on topics ranging from "How to Publish with the Journal of Interreligious Studies" to "Critical Pedagogies for the Interfaith Classroom."
A number of students and alums attended and/or gave presentations as well, including Rabbi Allyson Zacharoff (IPP), Rabbi Dr. Aaron Spiegel (D.Min.), Dr. Mahan Mirza (MA), Lyka Mtambo (MAP), and Evans Nyamadzawo (current MAP student), Rev. Dr. Eileen Epperson (D.Min.) and Dr. Vanessa Avery (Ph.D.), Semih Kiyma (MA, and current Ph.D.), and Fatima Hallal (IPP), among others.
It was a productive and exciting week. Please enjoy our photo gallery.
