Hartford Seminary Statement Regarding Charlottesville

August 16, 2017

On behalf of Hartford Seminary and its many supporters in Connecticut, the United States and across the world, we denounce in the strongest possible terms the hatred, bigotry and intolerance espoused by the White Supremacists, the Ku Klux Klansmen and the Neo-Nazis who this past weekend rampaged through Charlottesville, Virginia, leaving three people dead and many injured.

Hartford Seminary welcomes Steven Havira as the new Communications and Development Associate. Steven has recently located from Cincinnati, Ohio, having worked in religious higher education for the past three years. He previously worked in the media/film industry.

Professor Yahya Michot Visits Tomb of Arabian Nights Author

In preparation for the two week course on “The Arabian Nights” which he will give at the Seminary in January 2018, Professor Yahya Michot visited the tomb of Sir, and hajji, Richard Francis Burton (d. 1890), one of the most famous translators of this masterpiece of Arabic literature.
