'Father of Peace' Dr. Ephraim Isaac Visits HIU Peacebuilders

Dr. Ephraim Isaac is a leader in the world of peacebuilding. In his native Ethiopia, he is known as the “father of peace.” During his recent visit to JIU, he met with the inaugural cohort of 10 students in the MA in International Peacebuilding (MAP) program and answered their many questions.

Faith Communities Today Releases Findings from Largest-Ever Survey of U.S. Congregations

Faith Communities Today (FACT), a multireligious and collaborative research initiative that has been tracking trends in the U.S. religious landscape since 2000, has just released the findings of its 2020 survey of 15,278 congregations from across 80 denominations and religious groups, the largest national survey of congregations conducted in the U.S. to date.

Students Learn about Jewish Holiday of Sukkot

With Muslim, Christian and Jewish students in attendance, Dr. Deena Grant, Associate Professor of Jewish Studies, gave a short lesson about the Jewish holiday of Sukkot and invited students to eat inside Hartford Seminary’s sukkah, a traditional temporary shelter built for the observance.

Recording Available for Mitka’s Secret Program

President Joel N. Lohr, along with co-authors Steven Brallier and Lynn Beck in Nashville, spoke on Sept. 19 with Dr. Avinoam Patt about their book Mitka’s Secret, the remarkable life story of Mitka Kalinski, who survived seven years of enslavement to a Nazi officer during and after World War II.

President Lohr Schedules Fall Office Hours

President Joel N. Lohr has scheduled office hours for the Fall 2021 semester. 4-5 p.m., Thursday, September 23 4-5 p.m., Thursday, October 28 4-5 p.m., Thursday, November 18 4-5 p.m., Thursday, December 16 President Lohr will hold office hours for students, faculty, and staff by appointment. Appointments will be made on a first come, first served basis in 15-minute time slots during the above designated hours. Contact Lorraine Browne (lbrowne@hartsem.edu) to set up an appointment!

Dr. Miriam Therese Winter Speaks to Women’s Ordination Conference
