HIU Prepares to Search for Islamic Studies Senior Faculty Position
October 23, 2024
Hartford International University for Religion and Peace (HIU) is excited to share that it will soon begin a search for a full-time senior faculty position in Islamic Studies. This individual will also serve as co-director of the Duncan Black Macdonald Center for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations.
This position reaffirms HIU’s longstanding and historic commitment to Islamic Studies and signals a continued forward-looking approach to advance its programs and Muslim life in America. In the coming months, the University’s faculty will assess the needs of current students and programs in order to define the scope of this position, setting the stage for a comprehensive search process to begin in the new year.
The role will restore the crucial presence of a Muslim faculty member as co-director of the Macdonald Center, a longstanding tradition at the institution. Co-directing the Center with the Rev. Dr. David D. Grafton, Professor of Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations, this is a significant public-facing position that will enhance HIU’s ability to serve Muslim students, the broader Muslim community, and the University’s global mission.
