Indonesian Cohort Arrives at HIU
September 5, 2024
HIU recently welcomed 12 Indonesian students who will live on campus for the semester.
They came to us for a study abroad experience. All of them are in the final stages of their MA or Ph.D. programs in the department of Tafsir (Quranic commentary) at the PTIQ University in Jakarta. The Istiqlal Mosque, the largest mosque in the world, also sponsors them.
The Istiqlal Mosque Ulama Cadre Education (PKUMI) student short course is a mandatory part of the PKUMI curriculum and is fully funded by the Indonesian Endowment Funds for Education (LPDP). The course is intended to provide Indonesian graduate students the opportunity to spend several months in an American, interreligious, intercultural, and academic environment.
The short course program consists of a cohort American cultural immersion seminar, conversational English tutoring, an Islamic studies research methods seminar with various faculty from the Macdonald Center, and guided research with an assigned HIU advisor who will be a conversation partner regarding the student's MA or Ph.D. research.
The short course program lasts for three months for the master's program students and six months for the doctoral program.
Welcome, everyone!
