Book Talk: Refugees and Reconciliation
February 16, 2023
from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
In this in-person and livestreamed event, Muslim World Managing Editor Nick Mumejian will interview Editor Davide Tacchini about the book Reconciliation and Refugees: The Academic Alliance for Reconciliation Studies in the Middle East and North Africa.
This book addresses the diverse needs of refugees due to recent wars and conflicts in the MENA region. In particular, the book examines the feelings of sadness and guilt over leaving home and family behind, traumatic experiences while fleeing, conflicts with other refugees and with local people, the loss of a what gave meaning and meaning to life, and the difficulties of returning a homeland that may no longer feel like home, which are all the individual facets of this need for reconciliation.
The activities of the UN, international refugee organizations, government agencies, municipalities, NGOs, religious and humanitarian organizations are presented in this book. In addition to contributing authors from Morocco, Libya, Egypt, the Palestinian territories, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, the volume also contains texts from German, Greek, Italian and American perspectives. The book shows a region ravaged by wars and conflicts, but it also shows initiatives and approaches towards reconciliation
