The State of the Study of Shi'ite Islam in North America and Europe

Hartford Seminary, in partnership with the Alavi Foundation, the Jafaria Association of Connecticut and the Islamic Institute of Ahl'albait, held a conference on "The State of the Study of Shi'ite Islam" on Saturday, October 8, at the Hartford Plaza Hotel, East Hartford, CT. Leading scholars of Shi'i Islam participated, and there was a concluding banquet, featuring Dr. Sayyed Hossein Nasr as the keynote speaker. More than 200 people attended the conference.

Dr. Ingrid Mattson, Director of the Macdonald Center for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations, welcomes the conference audience.

Dr. Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Professor of Islamic Studies at George Washington University, delivered the keynote address.

Umar Moghul, a Trustee at Hartford Seminary, addressed the conference.
