Mitka Kalinski, Subject of President Lohr's Book, Visits Holocaust Museum
December 13, 2023
Mitka Kalinski, who was a child-slave during the Holocaust and the subject of a book co-authored by President Joel N. Lohr, recently made his first visit to the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., from his home in Sparks, Nevada.
A Nevada television station that has followed Kalinski's story for years took video of the visit and produced a news segment about it. That segment can be viewed here. While at the museum, Kalinksi also gave an interview to an oral historian, saying "it's very important to me to do that because I lost my family to Hitler."
The book, Mitka's Secret: A True Story of Child Slavery and Surviving the Holocaust, narrates Kalinski's remarkable life story and his survival during seven years of enslavement — while still a child — to a Nazi officer during and after World War II.
Steven W. Brallier was the lead author of Mitka’s Secret. Lynn G. Beck served as a co-author with President Lohr. At the time of the book's initial publication in 2021, Publisher's Weekly said, "Mitka's remarkable story harrowingly demonstrates the horrors and personal repercussions of the Holocaust."
