HIU Welcomes Director of Library Services
April 19, 2022
Hartford International University is thrilled to welcome Karla Fackler Grafton as Director of Library Services.
“I am excited to be here at HIU. I believe strongly in the mission of the institution and multifaith education,” she said. “I would like to see the library as the heart of the mission of this institution where students, faculty, staff, and community can come to get their information needs met, or just come to be and relax.”
Karla is a Theological Librarian with 20-plus years of experience in various national and international libraries. She was the Foreign Languages Librarian from 1999 to 2007 at the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo, Egypt. She also worked as an Archives and Rare Books Librarian at Westminster Theological Seminary. Most recently, she worked as Assistant Librarian at John P. Webster Library at First Church West Hartford.
Throughout her career, she has worked with people from a variety of backgrounds and viewpoints, an experience that aligns with HIU’s mission. Karla holds an MLS from Rutgers University, an MTS in Old Testament Studies from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Ohio, and a BA in Religion from Capital University in Ohio.
Several exciting projects are beginning at the HIU Library, including the development of a pastoral resource center for our new Howard Thurman Center for Justice and Transformational Ministry and a project to review and digitize select archival materials.
