Hartford International University Library's Winter Showcase
December 21, 2023
A library can be an isolated place. People come by, but reading is a solitary activity. Libraries have an implied “silence” sign. So, Hartford International University librarians often come up with ideas to create a more inviting and enjoyable atmosphere.
For this holiday season, Library Assistant Regina Wijayanti built a tree made of interfaith books representing the evergreen trees that add color to the New England winter.
We are an interfaith institution, and as many of our international students come from countries that don’t experience winter, she wanted her tree to showcase the novelty of winter rather than Christmas. She also united faculty and staff by decorating the tree with an image of their favorite books and the stories behind them.
