Dr. Lucinda Mosher Takes Her Place as President of Association for Interreligious/Interfaith Studies
December 3, 2024
On Friday, Nov. 22, The Association for Interreligious/Interfaith Studies (AIIS) held its first 501(c)3 corporation meeting with Dr. Lucinda Mosher as President.
Founded at the American Academy of Religion (AAR) annual meeting in Boston in 2017, AIIS is dedicated to establishing interreligious and interfaith studies as a distinct interdisciplinary field. In her leadership role, Dr. Mosher spearheaded the crafting and adoption of the association’s mission and vision statements.
The mission reads:
“The mission of the Association for Interreligious/Interfaith Studies (AIIS) is to inspire and enable transformative collaboration among individuals dedicated to advancing interreligious/interfaith studies as a distinct interdisciplinary field of research, teaching, and engagement."
The vision statement emphasizes the organization's broader goals:
"AIIS envisions fostering dialogue, cooperation, and knowledge production among scholars and practitioners, ensuring that work in this field serves the greater public good and contributes creatively to the flourishing of pluralistic societies.”
The meeting, held in San Diego, also celebrated a symbolic moment of Dr. Mosher’s transition. In a lighthearted ceremony, the passing of the torch was represented by a green flashlight. “It was a lovely moment,” said Dr. Mosher.
As a growing organization, AIIS seeks to promote collaboration and scholarship that address pressing interreligious and interfaith issues, fostering a stronger understanding of pluralistic societies while contributing to the public good.
Congratulations, Lucinda!
