AARP Features 'Faith in the Neighborhood' Series
June 1, 2022
An article about our Executive and Professional Education (EPE) series called "Faith in the Neighborhood" has been published on the website for AARP, which has nearly 38 million members.
The article is AARP Connecticut Connects Across Faiths with Online Discussion Series. It highlights Aida Mansoor, Director of Field Education, and her story of recognizing how important community connections could be in the aftermath of 9/11.
The free, one-hour sessions focus on different topics, such as Clothing, Cuisine, Clocks & Calendars. Dr. Lucinda Mosher has designed the five-part series and delivers it with the help of Aida, Dr. Timur Yuskaev, Dr. Preeta Banerjee, Dr. Donna Schaper, and Dr. Vanessa Avery.
Katy O'Leary, Director of EPE, told AARP that a person’s faith is an important element of their identity that all too often isn't recognized in the workplace.
“We believe that there’s a strong connection between religion and peace, and until there’s understanding, we’re not going to have peace in the world,” she said.
Upcoming sessions include Dating and Weddings in the Multifaith Neighborhood, on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m., and What Goes On in There? America’s Religious Diversity in Ten Buildings, on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m.
The sessions are free and offered via Zoom, though registration is required. Participants do not have to be AARP members. According to AARP.org, "Social workers and those in related fields may receive continuing education credit through AARP’s collaboration with the National Association of Social Workers-Connecticut Chapter."
Register for the workshops at aarp.org/ctevents.
