AAR Accepts Paper by Ph.D. Candidate Ramy Marcos

Ph.D. candidate Ramy Marcos of Egypt submitted an abstract proposal to the American Academy of Religion conference, and it was accepted. The paper, “Women’s Conversion and Religious Toleration in Ottoman Islamic Egypt: The Case Study of Fāṭimah of Asyūt,” will be presented at the AAR Conference in in Boston, Nov. 21-24, 2020.

The paper will be presented during the Middle Eastern Christianity Unit’s session on gender. This session is organized by Dr. Deanna Ferree Womack and Dr. Michel Andros. Monica Mitri (Claremont School of Theology), Tracy Russell (Saint Louis University), and Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb (Dar al-Kalima University) will also present papers.

AAR’s mission is “to foster excellence in the academic study of religion and enhance the public understanding of religion.” It has more than 8,000 members who teach in 900 colleges, universities, seminaries, and schools.
