Social Justice Discussion Group - Allyship
February 23, 2022
from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM
Equality is simply not going to happen in our communities, in our places of worship, and in our organizations unless those who hold more privileged identities in terms of race, gender, socioeconomics, etc., get actively involved in the struggle for justice. One way of doing this is by serving as an “ally” with the marginalized.
Mia McKenzie says allyship is “a way of living life without reinforcing oppressive behaviors we’re claiming to be against.” Karolina Szczur writes: “Allyship is a journey, not an identity. Allyship isn’t creating a platform for ourselves, but for those without privilege.” [Click here to read more…]
Join us on Tuesday, February 23rd from 1:30 to 3 PM for an online discussion about steps you can take to serve as an ally to those who are marginalized by virtue of race, gender, wealth, disability, etc. In this program, we will consider both day-to-day as well as societal contexts. The program, which is a collaboration between Hartford International University and the Spiritual Life Center (West Hartford) is free to all. A link to an informative TedTalk will be sent to you in a few days.
