March 9, 2023

Offering examples from key texts and lived contexts in Asia and elsewhere, she will present Islamic theory and practice for areas of critical engagement and advocacy such as rights of nature, environmental justice, and deep ecology. This shows how past and present Muslim religious responses to environmental change express a call to rethink our own shared academic grounds for humanistic environmental study and activism.

The lecture is named after the first director of the Macdonald Center for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations. It brings a distinguished scholar to campus for a public presentation on Islam or Christian-Muslim relations to promote interreligious understanding and mutual respect in the local, national and world communities.

Livestreaming will take place on our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/hartfordinternational
